The Swedish Employment Failure. There is a debate in several countries about learning from Swedish economic and social policies. It is always good to learn from others. But of course it is essential not to copy other′s failures. Based on new facts, I yesterday issued a press release in Swedish inviting the Finance Minister to Timbro to debate the economic reality and the need for economic reform in Sweden. He claims that Swedish employment and growth are developing fine, but reality gives another message:

- The recent publication "Employment in Europe 2005" from the EU Commission shows that only four EU countries have a negative employment development and that Sweden is one of them.

- The latest statistics from Eurostat show that economic growth is currently higher in 15 EU countries (the last quarter on an“annual basis) than in Sweden.

- In EU-15, between 1995 and 2003, employment grew more in 11 EU countries than in Sweden.

- In the UNCTAD "World Investment Report 2004", only 12 of 183 countries had a net outflow of investments and Sweden was one of them.
