The Economist About Sweden: Admire the Best, Forget the Rest. In the latest edition of The Economist, there is a Special Report about Sweden; a more extensive article with a deeper analysis. In my opinion, it is the most correct and well-researched international article about Sweden so far. (The only thing they got wrong, for once, is my position at Timbro; I don′t run the place, I am Director of the Program for Free Markets.) The message of the article is roughly that there are parts of the Swedish society which work well, but that is due to free markets and reforms, and other parts that definitely don′t function, due to big government and a lack of reform. Below is a telling diagram showing the development of employment in different sectors of Sweden during the last 50 years.
