What Does Cameron Want? Today, the British Conservatives elected their new leader, David Cameron. Perhaps he will have the best chances to become a Conservative British Prime Minister for eight years. A young man, dedicated to changing the image - and policies - of his party in a moderate direction. The Conservatives have been in a terrible state for a long time, so any change would probably be for the better. His victory speech - read it here - may give a few clues as to what he wants to do.

One has to remember that the content and political direction may matter, but that also goes for the way it is communicated. The tone, the pictures, the aims, the strategy - all those things matter. Clearly, the speech is optimistic and with a sense of humour. He speaks of social values, and the impression is serious and constructive. There is some ideology, but mostly like phrases - until one encounters this: "There is such a thing as society, it′s just not the same thing as the state." That seems to me a receipt that Cameron has an clear sense of ideology.
